about

Recorded in front of a live in-studio audience, this original Afro-Peruvian inspired music (performed by Western Australian drummer/composer Daniel Susnjar and his ensemble) delivers party level excitement with a sophisticated artistic edge.

The Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group is an award-winning 7-piece ensemble which presents original compositions influenced by Afro-Peruvian rhythms and fresh, unique arrangements of traditional Peruvian folk songs. Following on from the success of albums “Su Su Nje” (2014) and “Moth to a Flame” (2016), “Spark” showcases Susnjar's Western Australian based ensemble in world-class form – performing cutting edge original Afro-Peruvian Jazz music to an in-studio audience. The album is the next step in Susnjar’s push forward with innovative ways to express artistic sensibilities from the Afro-Peruvian and Jazz musical traditions.

Daniel Susnjar is a multi award-winning Western Australian drummer/composer/producer known internationally for his expertise in the field of Afro-Peruvian Jazz. He has performed and recorded with music legends including Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, Steve Miller, Pharrell Williams and Dave Grusin, and has toured throughout the USA, Peru, Australia, Asia and the Caribbean Islands. His drumming can heard throughout the critically-acclaimed documentary film “Whiteley,” multiple winner at the 2017 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

Says Susnjar, “I feel passionate and truly excited about documenting the sound which we have developed together as a unit. Everybody has dedicated so much of themselves towards this project, and I’m thrilled with the results.”
